UI For Recap
2023 - Freelance
🚀 Introducing one of my freelance projects in 2023: Recap, a powerful mobile app for financial management. Recap empowers you to manage your credit and debit cards, keep track of your expenses and incomes (including loans, installments, and more), set and achieve your financial goals (like that dream trip or those shiny new gadgets 🌴📱), and gain a clear view of your financial landscape.

Overview
My client wants to develop an app that helps them manage their money better. They want it to be personalized for their needs, like keeping track their incomes and outcomes, managing their financial goals, paying bills, and handling their credit and debit cards.
As the UI/UX designer behind this endeavor, I embarked on an exciting journey that began with gathering user requirements, research and benchmarking, followed by concepting and wireframing, designed some UI kits, and ultimately bringing the UI design to life in two short weeks.
Challenge & Limitation
After discussing with my client online, I found out that he wants to manage his finances but isn't satisfied with the apps available on the Play Store or App Store. He feels they're either too complex or too simple, so he's decided to create his own financial management app. This app will be strictly for his personal use, so he wants it to have features and a design that meet his exact needs. He also shared a list of features and design style that he wants, but I can also come up with more ideas. Another challenge is that I should have completed this design within 2 weeks.
Solution
A dark mode theme with an orange color scheme for a modern, sleek look.
A clean, minimalist interface for easy navigation.
Personalized features tailored to the client’s specific needs.
I kicked off the project by thoroughly understanding the client's pain points and reviewing their feature requests. Then, I structured the design process to ensure efficiency, starting with research and competitor benchmarking, followed by wireframing, client feedback loops, and finally, UI design.
Ideating Solution

After reviewing the requirements from my client and getting insights from our last online meeting, I started to understand what my client needs. I began by organizing the information based on his requirements and looked at what competitors are doing as well.

Design Process
I created the wireframe based on the Information Architecture I developed earlier, also checking out competitor apps for insights. Since this project has a specific user and limited time, I want to utilize resources efficiently. Creating the wireframe first helps minimize revisions during UI design.
While creating the wireframe, I found a few things I needed to confirm with the client, so I added notes to ask during the first checkpoint. Thankfully, my client was very responsive, provided clear vision and explanations, enabling me to handle issues swiftly and continue the wireframing process smoothly.

✅ First checkpoint completed
✅ Wireframe approved (with a few notes from my client, but it's okay since they're not major revisions). I moved on to the next step in the process which is UI Crafting.

The design direction for this project emphasizes a dark mode theme with an orange color scheme, aiming for a modern and minimalist look. This choice is intended to create a visually appealing interface that is also easy on the eyes.

n developing the design, the focus is on simplicity and clarity, creating a seamless user experience where users can easily understand and navigate the app's features. The goal is to make the interface clean and uncluttered, ensuring that users can easily navigate and understand the app's features. This involves careful attention to layout, typography, and color choices to ensure clarity and functionality. The goal is to deliver a clean and intuitive design that meets the user's needs effectively.
Conclusion
After completing the project and receiving feedback from the client during the final checkpoint, I successfully achieved the main goal of creating a financial manager mobile app design that fulfills their needs with a clean and minimalist approach.
Moreover, I have been asked to continue collaborating with this client on another project, joining their team to develop a dashboard for a logistics company. This opportunity to work on a new project further validates the success of the previous collaboration and paves the way for potential future collaborations.
📖 Lesson Learned
During this project, I learned the importance of continuous communication with the user and understanding their needs. It's also crucial to plan and take a strategic approach to complete the project within a short timeframe, allowing us to deliver the project according to requirements and on time.
